Twenty-nine of our bloggers had the pleasure of trying out Yoplait Kids. Most of the reviewers were already Yoplait fans, so eagerly jumped on board to spread the word and to publicize the print-your-own $1.50-off coupon.
Yoplait Kids appears to be a go-to for healthy snack options. Explains one reviewer regarding the old what-to-put-in-the-lunchbag question: “I could always count on her to eat her yogurt. And since Yoplait Kids has been so good to me for the past five-plus years, I’ve kept buying it.” Five-plus years is a long time in kid-cravings. One blogger has four kids who on their own selected Yoplait Kids: “I didn’t pay any attention to what they grabbed…grocery shopping with 4 kids, even well behaved kids like mine, tends to distract me… when they threw in over 30 containers of yogurt, I didn’t notice… Because it was in the refrigerator, and because Yoplait yogurt is so delicious, it is all gone [only a week later]…the kids started begging me to buy some more.”
Even before yogurt touched lips, the kids were impressed. “My kids are really drawn to “kids” yogurt, they like the little designs on the cups, they like the size of the cups but mainly they like the actual yogurt in them.” explained one blogger. Another reviewer described the scene as follows: “What she cared about was that Dora! Was on her yogurt cup! As in, ‘Mommy, can I have a Dora yogurt now? Mom, this Dora yogurt’s great! More Dora yogurt, please! Did you know Dora likes strawberries? Do you think Boots eats yogurt? Can I take a Dora yogurt to school? I bet Swiper swipes Dora’s yogurt!’ and on and on and on…” She wasn’t the only one who went ga-ga for Dora: “Can you resist Dora and Diego? It’s pratically eating with your kids’ celebrity idols. Hey, one of my little one (I have 6), age 2, even has conversations with them. Daughter: ‘Dora do you want to eat my yogurt?’ as she tries to push spoon over the Yoplait Yogurt Dora image.”
Not all parents were enthusiastic about the cartoon characters though: “My only complaint with Yoplait Kids are the cartoon characters and specifically Dora [because she's SATAN] but I realize that Yoplait isn’t marketing to me; they’re marketing to my kid. And, I figure if my only complaint is about what’s on the OUTSIDE of the container and not what’s on the INSIDE then Yoplait did a pretty good job.” Another reviewer similarly avoids licensed characters, but explains, “I was a skeptic when it came to the Yoplait Kids yogurt drinks. Of course, with Dora splashed all over them, it took all of two seconds for my daughter to run towards them like they were covered in chocolate and sprinkles. To my surprise, they are not covered in anything but fairly healthy goodness, at least when it comes to fruit flavored non-organic yogurt.”
For kids with sensory-issues, smooth Yoplait Kids is fantastic: “My seven year old - if you haven’t guessed - has a bit of a “thing” when it comes to chunks of stuff mixed in her food, and any foods with dueling textures are usually given a big thumbs down and a Yuck Face… [but she said:] ‘I LOVE this yogurt. It doesn’t have chunks of stuff in it. It’s smoooooooooth.’” Anther mom of a picky eater explained “My daughter has turned her nose up at TONS of different yogurts before, because they were too chunky, not the right fruit, you name it. And, Yoplait Kids yogurt is literally the only yogurt she will even try!”
The same smooth quality makes it a safe bet for toddlers who perhaps don’t chew their food as well as they should, and to avoid clogging sippy-cup valves: “No chunks, which makes it not only palpable for my picky yogurt eater, but also for toddlers who could possibly choke on any chunks. The spoonable yogurt is thick and creamy, perfect for kids learning to self-feed. No runny mess! And the flavors offered have something for every kid - strawberry, mixed berry, banana, and so on.” Yet another reviewer concurred: “It’s been a constant challenge to find anything that [my son is] even remotely interested in putting in his mouth, much less swallowing. Enter… Yoplait. If it weren’t for yogurt, I’m sure he would have starved to death by now.”
Indeed, Yoplait Kids is a toddler-friendly food. Enthuses one reviewer “I’d love to hug the food scientist who thought, ‘Hmm, let’s make the yogurt thick and spoonable for little kids so their mothers can drink their coffee instead of helping them eat!’ It’s brilliant in its simplicity. Ready to go straight from the carton, and I don’t have to be all domestic-maveny by draining yogurt in strainers overnight.”
And for kids who just had an appendectomy (not that we wish that on anyone,) Yoplait Kids yogurt is a perfect choice: “We needed to rebuild the healthy bacteria in our 6-year-old’s body. The only problem: Too much sugar, and we’d undo all the goodness of yogurt. Thankfully, Yoplait has less sugar than other kids’ yogurts. I don’t know about you, but when I am standing in front of a huge display of products and trying to scan nutritional labels, I usually just grab the first one I can find that isn’t horrible. Now I’ll know to just go straight to the Yoplait.”
One reviewer had a rather odd association with yogurt, a commercial in which “they had a bunch of thousand-year-old Bulgarians sitting around a fire pit eating from a vat of yogurt.” Ah-huh. Fortunately, Yoplait Kids came to the rescue to change that imagery. Another reviewer seemed destined not to be a fan of yogurt: “My mother tried to convince me it was just ice cream. When I realized it was “melty” and not frozen, I gagged.” Fortunately, her son eats yogurt for every single meal. As she explains, “Yoplait Kids yogurt offers a delicious and nutritious, creamy texture and taste, made with Omega-3 DHA, which is an important nutrient that supports brain growth during childhood development stages (which totally explains why [my son] is so smart — or maybe he’s just a smarty pants?).” I bet he’s so smart that he won’t tell his kids that yogurt is really ice-cream.
Our reviewers loved gushing about the healthful aspects of Yoplait Kids: “I LOVE Yoplait Yogurt. Not only do my kids love it… it’s easy for them to get themselves AND it’s good for them! It’s not only packed with vitamin D, vitamin A and Omega 3-DHA, it also has 25% LESS sugar than other yogurts.” remarked one reviewer. “I also like that Yoplait for Kids has less sugar that other yogurts, and is helpful in, um, making the insides go out.” said another. “With the recent addition of Omega 3-DHA, and 25% less sugar than most offerings out there, the smooth texture and with the beloved inclusion of such favorites as Dora, Diego and Blue, Yoplait is in my shopping cart again and again.” explained a third. Other reviewers simply enjoyed gushing: “hey everyone, yoplait for kids yogurt (trix especially) is super fun and yummy!!!! [my son] loves it! he eats one every morning for breakfast.”
One reviewer specifically seeks out products with Omega-3s: “For the last two years I have had to trick, prod and cajole my children into consuming a daily dose of omega 3s.” But then she found Yoplait Kids: “How does it taste? YUMMY! I no longer have to bargain with or pin my kids down to make them eat their daily omega 3s and I feel better knowing that their snack is lower in sugar.”
In addition to those healthy tummy bacteria and the Omega 3-DHA, did you know yogurt is a high-protein food? One reviewer has definitely done her homework: “Yoplait Kids provides 5 grams of protein per cup of yogurt and 2 grams of protein per bottle of yogurt drink. Yogurt is the one stand-by high-protein food I always have in the fridge so the kids can give themselves a quick burst of protein whenever they need one.”
Of course yogurt has calcium. One mom explains her daughters don’t drink much milk, so yogurt is important: “As a Mom of young girls in a family with an awful history of osteoporosis this worries me. Thankfully they are big fans of cheese and even bigger fans of yogurt.”
A yogurt-loving veteran explained that her household has tried every type of yogurt under the sun, but was astonished and pleased to find Yoplait Kids since it contains less sugar than the rest: “I had seen some writing on the case of Yoplait Kids yogurt that practically leapt off of the cardboard packaging. ‘25% less sugar,’ I read. In disbelief I picked up the carton. I was prepared to be disappointed. I fully expected to find artificial sweeteners among the listed ingredients. But there wasn’t a one. Finally! A yogurt with less sugar!” Another reviewer agreed: “Their products use real sugar instead of the horrible high fructose corn syrup which we try to avoid in our diet as much as possible. I also love the use of natural coloring ingredients like turmeric and beet juice instead of the questionable high octane colors used in other products.”
Yoplait Kids Yogurt is great to take-along: “When we’re looking for a small take-along yogurt, this is an excellent choice.” And to sip: “It’s also available as a yogurt drink and my kids LOVE those. I have to hide them in the fridge so that they last more than a day.” They are desirable, but also a top choice for drinkable yogurt: “Unlike other brands of drinkable yogurt, Yoplait Kids is made with real fruit puree.” It is an easy and economical snack, “Yoplait’s version of the yogurt smoothie fits our budget and needs perfectly. Plus, we pop the straw in right throught the aluminum top to avoid spills.”
Healthful, tasty, nutritious, and convenient: Yoplait Kids gets the thumbs-up from parents and kids alike. Print your own $1.50-off coupon to give Yoplait Kids a try.
