CleanWell Handwash: Here’s What They’re Saying So Far

When we choose to purchase anti-bacterial handsoaps, our aim is to ensure that our kids are going to be safer. But what many parents know is that a potentially dangerous chemical called “Triclosan” is one of the active ingredients in these products.

CleanWell, a dad-founded company inspired by a boy with an immune deficiency disorder, has created a brand new product. Known for their amazing 100% natural hand sanitizer, these similarly natural handwashes are totally triclosan free. With original scents by Mandy Aftel and the active ingredient being a plant oil combination called “Ingenium,” our parents were curious to check out their new handwashes (now available, along with with their hand sanitizers) at Target.

If you’ve got sensitive skin, wiggly tots, or just an overall disdain for chemicals (who doesn’t), our parent bloggers say CleanWell’s new handwash is for you!

The bloggers offered a quick rundown of the product features:

- No triclosan!

- Natural scents!

- Removable labels for a sleek looking bottle!

- Reasonably priced: $4.49 at Target

- Sustainable and biodegradeable

The parents were pleased to find a product that was truly safe for kids. “Because they’re safe for my kiddos to use. I really didn’t like using any of the other brands of anti bacterial products on their little hands. Especially knowing that those fingers were going directly into their mouths… I never knew which was worse, the chemical, or the germs!”

As far as the scents were concerned, most of the bloggers liked them. “The scents are lovely because they’re not artificial (Orange/Vanilla is my personal favorite!).”The scents are pleasing, the essential oils come through nicely and each of the bottles are made from the most recyclable plastics possible.”Another added “Each scent is complex and pleasurable. It is not an overpowering scent (like the organic peppermint soap I am used to.)”One blogger did note that if you’re not used to smell of Thyme, they can be a bit overpowering. But she concluded that the safety factors outweighed her initial shock of the smells.

The kids even loved the bottles and scents! “When I asked him which bottle should go in which bathroom, he said “Leave the orange one down here. I really like it!” And he proceeded to wash his hands without prompting. Oooh, I was impressed.”

Another mom added that the foaming soap was great for toddlers. “This made it really easy for my two-year-old to get the soap on his hand when he pumped it out and to get a really good lather. With the liquid soaps we have, I was always afraid that he wasn’t really getting his whole hand washed.” These moms agreed. “Washing his hands is hard enough because he won’t stand still, but trying to get regular soap to lather on his hands and then get it all rinsed off is a pain in the ass.” “The hand pumps are easy for kids to use and the foam seems less wasteful for kids to use than pumping liquid soap, where less is more and more is easy to come by.”

Now one blogger noted that the product does contain sodium lauryl sulfate which makes the soap “foam.” While this can be drying to most peoples’ hands, CleanWell attempts to counteract this with natural remedies such as white tea and aloe. Here’s what one mom said about this:

Many soaps contain moisturizers, and CleanWell does not. Since this is the wintertime, I imagine my hands would be dry in any case, though, so I cannot be certain this is a result of the product. Of course, I don’t particularly like the slimy feel of moisturizing soaps anyway, so using CleanWell to wash and then a preferred (all-natural) hand-moisturizer as-needed would probably be a better choice than the all-in-one chemical-laden concoctions.

A few bloggers did note that the pumps were difficult at times, some of them requiring some extra work to get them working. But none said it would deter them from purchasing this fantastic product.

Overall, our bloggers were more than pleased with CleanWell’s new product!

Stay tuned for more reviews in February as well as a fantastic photo contest.
