I’ve got an amateur driver confession to make. When I was in high school, I parked my car in our driveway, where it was fully exposed to the winter elements. One morning, I was running late and decided that instead of waiting for the defroster to clear the ice, I’d just pour some water over the windshield to help speed up the process. It worked so well that I did it again the next morning. And the morning after that.

Until my father caught me and nearly blew a gasket. Apparently, I’d been courting disaster, daring my windshield to crack. Fortunately, it never did, and I didn’t have to learn my lesson the hard way.
