We’re pleased to be teaming up with Consumers Union, an expert, independent, nonprofit organization, whose mission is to work for a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers (best known, of course, for Consumer Reports).
They’ve put together a fantastic campaign for the holiday season called “Get the Lead Out This Holiday Season!” Sadly, it’s not just lead anymore. It’s small magnets that kids are choking on and it’s chemicals that can put our kids into comas.
And do not think that wood toys and plush toys are safe!
They’re looking for 30,000 parents to volunteer by 11/14 to be Safe Shoppers and let their local stores know that they are tired of the recalls. And we’re trying to help them spread the word and hit their number.
So, tell us what you’re doing about the recalls — emptying your toy box and starting over? shopping online with small businesses and local retailers? boycotting toymakers with recalled toys? petitioning your local politicians? shopping like you usually do?
We want to know what you think.
1) Write a post on your blog discussing this topic with your readers anytime before Midnight PST today.
2) Make sure to link http://blog.parentbloggers.com in your post, as well as the Consumers Union via this link somewhere in your post: http://www.consumersunion.org/SafeShopper
3) Email us the link to your post here (parentbloggers@gmail.com) and we’ll be rounding them up all day on our blog as well as the CU blog.
While we don’t have our typical enticing incentive, we will offer every blogger who participates a link to their post on the highly trafficked CU blog: Get The Lead Out http://www.consumersunion.org/blogs/nimc/, as well as a t-shirt.
*If you have shops that sell safe toys or any resources to add to our list, feel free to leave them in the comments. Parent Bloggers Network does not endorse any of them and cannot certify that any of them are truly safe.* And check out these posts for more suggestions!

Enough With These Toy Recalls!…
It’s not just lead, people. GHB? Even plush toys aren’t safe. How are you keeping up with all the recalls. Join the Parent Bloggers and the Consumers Union (Publisher of Consumer Reports) and share your thoughts, tips, etc. and put your foot down. EN…
Better than empyting toy boxes and starting over, let’s vote with our wallets and boycott these companies. If you think the toys are toxic, imagine what the manufacturing process is doing to the air and drinking water of every one from the factory workers who make these toys down to the environments that surround their communities.
