Boogie: Party of One or Party of Ten — Either Way it Works

This past weekend I had the pleasure of hosting a fellow blogger for a spouse-less evening together. Kids made pizzas and sundaes, we drank lots of water and ate salad, and pondered what the heck to do next.

Luckily, I had already come up with a brilliant plan; we would try out Boogie and put it to the test.

Our bloggers reviewed Boogie last month and found the game to be an exciting and fairly titillating experience. The game combines dancing and singing in fantastic Nintendo Wii fashion; there is not sitting or slumping in this game. In fact, we were all exhausted by the time it was time for the kids to go to bed.

After creating our characters, our kids took turns using the control while us moms had a Karaoke smackdown. Well, sort of. It’s hard to sing while trying to make sure your kids aren’t fighting over who gets to make “Glenis” (my daughter’s name pick. Don’t ask.) move around.

I have to say I’m a huge fan of the karaoke, although I think the song choices could be a bit better. It’s obvious the person who worked on the song sets really liked Jackson 5. And while I imagine they’re trying to appeal to all age groups (read: old people like me), I’m thinking a few more “hip” songs should have probably made the cut.

Or heck, at least ONE Bangles tune.

The game definitely gets your adrenaline pumping, and while our kids are way below the target age of the game (10 +), they loved dancing around and singing into the microphone. And it was clear that given an older child (or children — what a GREAT party game for a bunch of tweens), I could seen him/her spending HOURS playing this game.

The beauty of this game, and the Wii games in general is that it’s truly changing the face of video gaming. Your blood is pumping not just because you’re excited about the game, but because you’re actually moving and grooving.

And while it definitely takes some practice to use the control, it’s something I can definitely see using — regardless of whether it’s just me or a family party. Boogie has something for everyone.
