Who knew that there would be a video game out there that appeals to parents just as much as kids?
Sounds like an urban myth, or better, EA’s new Wii game Boogie.
Gone are the days of staring at the television screen wiggling a joystick around. Try singing into a microphone to your favorite songs, waving your body to get your avatar to dance, and laughing louder than you have done in a long time with your family.
Quick Game Facts:
- Aimed at kids 10 +
- Includes a microphone that hooks into your Wii system
- Compete with yourself or other people in karaoke, dancing, and/or dancing and karaoke
- Create your own music videos
- About 4000 other things I can’t even begin to tell you
- Laugh long, loud, and hard
Our first group of bloggers gave Boogie a thumbs up. But if that wasn’t enough to convince you the shell out the bucks for a Wii system and the game, then check out what our second set of Wii-playing parents have to say about Boogie.
The bloggers definitely found the game to be entertaining. “…if you like to laugh at yourself, and at your spouse, and at your children (and who doesn’t like these things?), then I can pretty much guarantee you that you’ll have yourself a good time with this thing.” This mom agreed — “ I am 32 and had fun with it too, so I would say it is good for all ages!” Another mom waited until she was all alone before singing her heart out.
…the actual singing part was fun! Provided you aren’t shy. And you have a decent voice. And being slightly inebriated would help too. Lacking all that, I simply waited until my husband went out of town, and after the kids went down I tortured the dogs with my howling, complete with a cold and sore throat. Just from knowing the songs I picked I was able to score pretty high, and despite how bad I sounded, I had fun. So much fun I actually played it for about an hour straight, a rare thing for me.
The kids definitely enjoyed the video feature. Okay. Even the parents did too. “We have had a blast with the Video Creator. We make our own videos showing off our mad skillz and then slam down a challenge to the next family member to top it.”
A few bloggers commented on the song list. “I might not have been able to say that I’m all that hip to hearing pop music streaming through my house in the ungodly hours of the morning but when you’re talking classics from The Jackson 5, it’s not as bad as it seems.”Some felt it had a decent variety while others were hoping for a bit more. “Wii? We love you. We love you so much we feel we can tell you that we think you should add more songs. We can help. We love you. Help us help you. I’m just saying.” Just remember that the more tokens you get, the more songs you can unlock. “After my first few songs at karaoke, I had earned enough tokens to unlock two popular songs.”
And if you haven’t played Wii, then it’s important to emphasize that it gets your blood pumping and your bum moving — and Boogie is no exception. “Seeing how I’ve been sweating buckets, I definitely endorse it as good exercise, too.”
“The bloggers commented that they enjoyed playing the game together; it offered something for everyone. “But honestly, the best part of the game is that we can all play it. From my 6 year old to my husband. We can dance and sing and laugh and have fun as a family.”
One blogger (and converted gamer) summed up the game well:
It’s hard enough for today’s family to carve out some quality-time between work, school and the million other commitments that keep us all moving so fast, so that quality-time needs to center around an activity that gets everyone excited and eager to play. And while some board games are fun for the whole family, there are only so many times you can play them. I found myself wanting to mix it up with something new and different. That is Boogie.
Make sure to check out the reviews for our bloggers’ full opinions of this game, and for some of my favorite pictures of their kiddos shaking it and singing it.

I found this amazing exercise video called Energigize & Exercise with your Preschooler from exercisewithmonny.com. It’s for 3+years old but my 2 yr old and my niece, 20 months, also love it. It has 3 different workouts- 10min, 15min and 20min. So even if you only have ten min you still get some exercise and toning. And let me tell you it’s a pretty good workout.
She counts, does the months of the year, ABC’s and more. I was having trouble finding time to work out and this helped so much.
I swear by this!!!
[...] Our bloggers reviewed Boogie last month and found the game to be an exciting and fairly titillating experience. The game combines dancing and singing in fantastic Nintendo Wii fashion; there is not sitting or slumping in this game. In fact, we were all exhausted by the time it was time for the kids to go to bed. [...]
