Go Potty Go! - Get Going (In the Potty, Please)
There’s no sure-fire, one-size-fits-all method of potty training. If there were, our parenting bloggers wouldn’t have been so excited to screen this DVD.
Whether it was an introduction to the concept, a helpful nudge in the right direction, or a way to seal the deal and declare a child officially trained, Go Potty Go! made a difference for all of our bloggers and their children.
The parents were definitely motivated. One mother voiced concern that “preschool may have to be postponed because of a lack of interest in potty training” and a father echoed the same sentiment: “We’re still eyeing that must-be-potty-trained Montessori pre-school for the fall, and…we’re up for anything that reinforces the message.” And of course, “the promise of diaper-free grocery lists looms large” as well.
The kids needed a little more motivation than attending preschool and reduced grocery bills. One little girl received “a potty seat shortly after she was two years old. Since then, it has served as a TV watching chair, a step-stool, a place to hide her toys, and a crayon canvas. The idea of sitting her bare bottom on that seat with the draft underneath is laughable to her.” Another little girl “talks the potty talk like nobody’s business, but she’s all talk, no plop.” And even when parents have sweetened the deal - literally - it doesn’t necessarily work: “That candy is for when I sit the potty, she’ll say, pointing to the container of sprinkles on the kitchen counter. What it doesn’t do, seemingly, is provide enough motivation to actually get her in there and put pee and poop in the potty in order to get said candy.”
But the tale that made me want to hop a plane with Clorox in hand came from this mother who lamented: “Come by my house a couple months after his second birthday and you would see me on a daily basis about to pull my hair out from him pooping on the floor on a regular basis.” Could Go Potty Go! help both her and her son?
As in the first group of reviewers, these kids really loved Go Potty Go! One little girl “enjoyed it so much that she sings the songs WHILE she’s on the potty. How about that?” And a little animal-lover is delighted that ”the moose has been added to her crew. Some people go their whole lives without encountering a moose, but [she] has already been privy to seeing one go potty beside a tree because he doesn’t want anyone to see.”
And again, the parents love it too. As one mom put it, “The tunes are so ridiculously catchy they’ll still be playing in my head as I wave goodbye to [her] and her prom date. But, if that means there won’t be a diaper under her gown, it’s definitely something I can live with.” And the kids’ enthusiasm is contagious; one father joked, “You think I’m being facetious but I’m not - you seriously cannot get this song out of your head. We wear underpants everyday! I kid you not. And she loves it. She sees the DVD case and wants to watch it, she starts singing the songs, talking about pandas and potties and panties (oh my!)…”
Of course the best part is that it’s getting kids into the bathrooom and onto the potty. Some aren’t producing much yet - “Nearly every time it ended, [she] would pull her pants down, unfasten her diaper, and bolt upstairs to get a pair of underpants” - and some are making progress - “He does try now…that’s something. It’s more than he would do before Go Potty Go! entered our lives” - and some are making real connections - “Less than a day after watching the DVD for the first time, [she] asked to sit on the potty and, not only that, she was productive if you get my drift.”
But the greatest success story to come out of this campaign is the little boy who was on the cusp of being trained, except for pooping on the floor. “To this very day my son has not had a repeat pooping on the floor accident. He has pooped successfully on the potty every single time. He has even been staying dry at night as well…and I believe that this simple DVD is what has completed what could have been a really long battle for us.”
So while no method will be a miracle for everyone, it’s certainly great to see a DVD like Go Potty Go! that’s so well-received by both parents and kids.
Congratulations to Sarah, our winner of the Go Potty Go! DVD

I’m so excited for this DVD…we are in the midst of “potty learning” right now, and it’s perfect timing for this! Yay!
