Go Potty Go! - Here’s What They’re Saying So Far

Based on the first set of reviews, Go Potty Go! seems to have charmed the pants off parents and toddlers alike.  The kids may still not necessarily be using the potty as consistently as their parents would like, but at least they’re getting the idea.

Go Potty Go! is “a cute animated story about two pandas named Paige and Parker. They’re learning to use the potty, and with their animal friends they sing songs and dance their way through all the pertinent topics.”  The fifteen-minute show “outlines all the important toileting steps - sitting, wiping, washing up - cheerfully and straightforwardly,” plus “little quizzes: ‘Is this a potty chair?’ No! or ‘Can Katie play with her kickball when she’s on the potty?’ No! But she can color in her coloring book! Audience participation is huge in the toddler set. Reinforcement through repetition with different activities is key.”

For one mom whose son is not quite ready, watching Go Potty Go! has encouraged him to begin ”telling [her] what he has done, and when he has done it. It’s made him aware of his bodily functions, and that is step one!”  Likewise, another mom whose daughter was just about completely day-trained “was most interested in discovering was if it would help her remember the whole ‘wash your hands bit.’ Boy, did it ever. She’s crazy about washing her hands now. I’m sure our water bill next month will certainly reflect this trend.”

A few reviewers weren’t comfortable with some lyrics that were meant to motivate but might have the opposite effect.  As one mom explained: “[This] is sort of a problem for us, because little C. in the little angel’s class is NOT a baby but still wears diapers due to cystic fibrosis.  C.’s mother asked us NOT to tell the children that only babies wear diapers, but I didn’t realize Paige and Parker would quickly undo all my lengthy explanations with a snap of their black-and-white paws.”

One mom pointed out that ”many adults and children have to wear diapers for various reasons that have nothing to do with being a big boy or girl,” and another mom just made up her own lyrics for that part - “…now we sing, Diapers are for nighttime, and that’s okay. But underwear is for daytime, and we do it the big kid way.”

But all in all, both the kids and the parents enjoyed Go Potty Go!:  “It’s undeniably cute without being cloying. Which, for a video about toilet training, is a pretty big achievement.”

  5. Sounds great! I would love to win this - my son uses his potty chair as a step stool!!

  6. I’ve always thought that I’d have to wait until my son showed the signs he was ready, to introduce a potty story/dvd to him. I’m thinking perhaps we should be showing him this dvd now to see if it encourages him.
